Mamit Gaikwad, State President, stated that the Government and Health Department must give greater priority and administrative focus to the Comprehensive Primary Health Care – Universal Health Coverage (CPHC-UHC) programme.
He stated that if the CPHC-UHC programme is implemented effectively and in its true spirit, there will be no necessity for the Department to introduce multiple separate healthcare programmes at the grassroots level.
The CPHC-UHC programme itself is designed to provide comprehensive healthcare services including preventive care, promotive healthcare, screening and early diagnosis, management of non-communicable diseases, maternal and child healthcare, elderly care, mental health services, palliative care, rehabilitation services, and community-based primary healthcare delivery.
He further observed that many newly introduced programmes are already covered under the framework and objectives of the CPHC-UHC initiative. Instead of creating parallel systems, the Government should strengthen existing Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs), improve infrastructure, ensure adequate human resources, and empower Community Health Officers (CHOs) and frontline healthcare workers for effective implementation.
Mamit Gaikwad further stated that proper implementation of CPHC-UHC can significantly improve rural healthcare delivery, reduce healthcare inequalities, and provide accessible and affordable healthcare services to the public at the community level.
Therefore, he strongly urged the Government to focus on strengthening and expanding the CPHC-UHC programme across Karnataka with adequate financial, administrative, and policy support.
