The State CHO Union has submitted a memorandum to the Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM), Karnataka, demanding implementation of minimum wages for Community Health Officers (CHOs) on a zone-wise basis as per the provisions of the Karnataka Minimum Wages framework and applicable labour laws.
The Union highlighted that Community Health Officers are performing vital healthcare services at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs across Karnataka and have been contributing significantly towards strengthening primary healthcare delivery. Despite rendering essential services for several years, CHOs continue to face disparities in wages and service conditions.
The memorandum requests NHM Karnataka to:
- Implement minimum wages for CHOs based on the applicable zone classification.
- Ensure compliance with labour laws and social security provisions.
The Union stated that implementation of minimum wages would not only uphold the rights of Community Health Officers but also improve workforce motivation, retention, and quality healthcare services delivered to the public.
Mamit Gaikwad, State President of the Akhila Karnataka State Community Health Officers Union, informed that the Union has formally requested NHM Karnataka to implement zone-wise minimum wages for Community Health Officers and ensure compliance with labour laws and social security provisions. He expressed confidence that the authorities will take positive action on the demand in the interest of healthcare workers and public health services.
