The District committee of the Akhila Karnataka State Community Health NHM Contract Employees Union , Bengaluru Urban, has submitted a representation to the District Health and Family Welfare Officer, Bengaluru Urban District, seeking immediate implementation of the minimum wages notified by the Government of Karnataka for Community Health Officers (CHOs) working on a contractual basis under the National Health Mission (NHM).
Community Health Officers are categorized under the “Highly Skilled Workers” category. As per the latest minimum wage notification issued by the Government of Karnataka, the monthly minimum wage for Highly Skilled Workers in Zone–1 has been fixed at ₹31,114.
However, it has come to the association’s notice that many CHOs are currently receiving only ₹27,368 per month, which is significantly lower than the government-prescribed minimum wage.
In the representation submitted to the authorities, the association has urged the government to:
- Implement the notified minimum wage of ₹31,114 for all Community Health Officers with immediate effect.
- Release the pending wage difference (arrears) to all eligible employees.
- Ensure uniform implementation of the government’s minimum wage order for all contractual Community Health Officers working under the Health Department.
The Union has appealed to the district administration and health authorities to safeguard the legitimate rights of Community Health Officers and to take necessary administrative measures for the full implementation of the government notification without delay.
