Bengaluru: The Government of Karnataka has issued an official memorandum extending the benefit of menstrual leave to women employees working on a contract and outsourcing basis in government departments and associated institutions.
As per the order, all eligible women employees working in government departments, and in organizations such as corporations, boards, and autonomous bodies, will be entitled to one day of paid menstrual leave per month, subject to a maximum of 12 days per year. This provision comes into effect immediately.
The key provisions of the order are as follows:
- Women employees aged 18 to 52 years working on a contractual basis are eligible to avail this leave.
- The leave may be sanctioned by the competent authority authorized to grant casual leave.
- No medical certificate is required to avail this benefit.
- The leave must be recorded separately in the leave/attendance register.
- This leave cannot be combined with any other type of leave.
The Government aims to promote the health, dignity, and well-being of women employees through this progressive step, ensuring a more inclusive and supportive workplace environment.
