COMMUNITY HEALTH OFFICERS

The Akhila Karnataka State Community Health NHM Contractual Employees Union(R), represents over 6,000 dedicated Community Health Officers (CHOs) working under the CPHC-UHC program across Karnataka.
Our members are the backbone of community health, providing essential services to over 4 crore people.​

  • Community Health Officers (CHOs) are B.Sc. Nursing graduates who have successfully completed a six-month Bridge Course in Community Health as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. They underwent training at recognized Government Medical Colleges and were appointed through a CET-based, reservation-roster-compliant, merit-based recruitment process under the National Health Mission (NHM), Karnataka.
  • CHOs are working in the Health Department at Ayushman Arogya Kendras (Health and Wellness Centres) across the state, under the Comprehensive Primary Health Care – Rural (CPHC-UHC) Program and  perform essential public health, preventive, promotive, and limited curative functions, acting as the first point of contact for community-level healthcare delivery

About union

  • The union is officially registered as the Akhila Karnataka State Community Health NHM Contractual Employees Union (R) and is affiliated with the Trade Union Centre Centre (TUCI).
  • Initially, the organization was registered under the Societies Registration Act as the Akhila Karnataka State Community Health Officers Association. For pursuing legal and labor-related matters, and under the guidance of R. Manasayya, the organization was reconstituted as a Trade Union under the Trade Union Act, 1926, and was successfully registered on 25th May 2023.
  • The present President of the Union is Mr. Mamit Gaikwad, who leads the union in advocating for the rights, regularisation, and welfare of Community Health Officers (CHOs) and NHM contractual employees across Karnataka.

  • Support to Families of Deceased Employees: Financial aid and job opportunities.
